Q&A with Harris Federation History Leads and History teachers after watching my Curricularium video. Questions included how to resource enquiries on African Kingdoms, how to approach the use of racial language in the classroom and challenges around teaching the concept of race.

What does it mean to get better at history and how do I know my students are doing it?

Workshop which explored what students making progress in history might look like and how it relates to the curriculum that is being taught. I the workshop I explained how my school tries to assess this in a meaningful way and the challenges we still face. I also offered some strategies for early-career teachers to stay sane in the face of the many demands often made around curriculum and assessment,

Empire, curriculum and belonging

Conference session which looked at how I’ve developed our KS3 curriculum to include much more about the British Empire and Black British history. It also included my reflections on the challenges and implications of teaching Empire and Black British history on students’ (and teachers’) sense of belonging.
